The Postillion, or "Great House," is a State Certified Elder Group Home located at 709 Brown Street in Davenport, Iowa. Many elders are looking for alterantive ways to live! The Elder Group Homes Program (EGH) has been created to allow up to five elders to share living space in an existing private residence. The EGH program provides alternatives, while allowing elders to maintain self-sufficiency and control over their own lives. It is an opportunity to develop new friendships, interests, and a sense of belonging in a family setting.
You are cordially invited to visit
The Postillion
at your convenienceThe Postillion opened October 1, 1994, and is located one block west of Gaines at 7th and Brown streets. We offer a unique alternative to traditional nursing home placement, for those faced with the difficult decision of moving a loved one from their own home.
We cater to residents age 60 or older who do not wish to live alone, but are capable of self-care. This means that the tenant is ambulatory, is of sound mind, and can attend to the care of personal property adequately with minimal support or occasional assistance. Residents are provided with a private or semi-private room in a lovely old historical home in the Gold Coast area of Davenport. We encourage physical, emotional, and social well-being of each resident to his/her highest level. All the conveniences of home for less than nursing home rates.

We say homemade jellies and jams are special. We say homemade apple pie is special, that fresh=baked bread with every evening meal is special. We're glad to spend a few extra minutes on the whiskey sauce for the homemade bread pudding, and the egg custard must always be warm when served. A divine cup of homemade soup is always available at The Postillion. On any given day, one of the following soups may be served: Chicken Velvet, Beef Vegetable, Split Pea with Ham, Navy Bean, Cream of Potato, Cream of Asparagus, Cream of Spinach, Chicken and Noodle, Tomato, Cheese with Broccoli, Cabbage with Ground Beef.
Large-print library books are picked up weekly for those who like to read. Large-print crossword puzzles are provided for crossword enthusiasts. The New York Times in large-print is delivered weekly. The Quad City Times is delivered daily. Professional shampoo and set is done in-house at regularly-scheduled times each week. In-house manicure is performed as you wish. Bath schedules are set twice per week (more often if you wish). Receive guests undisturbed in our lovely living room. With twenty-four hour notice, you and your guests may dine alone at your own private table.
A beautiful garden view on the East side of the house makes The Postillion irresistible. Relax on the wrap-around front porch, or sit comfortably outside on the large tiled patio in the rear.
